Moorfield Cricket Club have announced to quit the County League after suffering heavy financial losses due to the absence of their cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mal-Loye-c1879, Mike Drane, who resigned in April this year following his rift with the club management.
Drane did a lot to establish the club and get Clubmark Accreditation status for it from the England Cricket Board (ECB). He used to raise immense funds for the club. During his tenure, the club took many leaps towards success.
Following Drane’s departure, the Club has lost its financial sponsors. Moreover, unlike in the past, no volunteer players are available to play for it and they do not have enough resources at their disposal to hire professional cricketers.
In the face of this sheer situation, the club management has decided to step out of the league. Their bottom down position in the Division Two has added more insult to injury and triggered their demise.
Defending the blame for the Club’s collapse, Drane said:
“In the past we had been managed by well-meaning volunteers, but by the early 2000s we had the usual problems with debts and were told the administrators were going to pull the plug. We had run along as a true community club and membership was strong – you
could walk in there any time and have a few beers and a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-William-Taylor-c86273. We simply could not afford to pay the fees despite organising many fund-raising events and as a result of this Route Organisation demanded we pay the full amount or there would not be any cricket
played in 2011”.
However, Drane is not disappointed about the future of the Club and hopes that they will regain their lost prestige soon once recession time is over.
Moorfield is not the only club to be hit by financial predicaments, most of the county cricket clubs in England are suffering from such type of problems and some of them have even diminished and analysts fear that more will http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Close-c51347 down after the current season.
This is partly due to the fact that the Clubs have lost viewership and sponsorship subsequently and partly due to the undue policies of the ECB.
