England's Michael Yardy out of ICC World Cup 2011 due to depression
England’s all-rounder Michael Yardy has been ruled out of the ICC World Cup 2011 after suffering from depression. England are scheduled to play their quarter-final game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at the R Premadasa Stadium, in Colombo on Saturday, 26th March.
Yardy stated, “Leaving at this stage of a World Cup campaign was a very difficult decision to make but I felt that it was the only sensible option for me and I wanted to be honest about the reason behind that decision.”
He further added, “I would like to wish the squad all the very best ahead of the game on Saturday. I would appreciate some privacy over the coming weeks while I spend time with family and close friends.”
The 30-year-old all-rounder played three matches of the World Cup for his team. However, he wasn’t effective as he took just two wickets for the team and scored 19 runs. He also proved to be too much expensive, which forced the management to drop him from
the playing-11.
The Poms opted for another spinner James Tredwell in their match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. The move worked out brilliantly for England, as Tredwell took four wickets in the match and was declared the player-of-the-match.
It was an important performance from Tredwell, as he helped his team qualify for the knockout stages. If England had lost that match, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 would have ended-up in fourth place in group B, one place ahead of the Poms.
There have been a lot of concerns for the English team during the World Cup. They had to leave out their best ODI batsman, Eoin Morgan because of a finger injury, but the promising left-hander made a surprise comeback to the squad.
Although Morgan’s comeback was good news for the English fans, there was one setback for the team, as Kevin Pietersen was ruled out of the mega event following an injury.
Other than that, England also lost their key strike bowler Stuart Broad before Yardy was withdrawn from the tournament. There hasn’t been a replacement named for the left-handed all-rounder. However, there are chances of leg-spinner Adil Rashid making it
into the squad.
