England Cricket team’s Test captain, Andrew Strauss, urges his team to achieve top spot in the ICC rankings
England’s Test captain, Andrew Strauss, has urged his side to think beyond the Ashes win and focus on achieving the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings on Wednesday.
"It's the start of a very busy and difficult summer for us and it is an opportunity for us to make a step forward to becoming number one in the world”, said Straus.
The captain said that although winning Ashes was one of their primary goals, they will have to look forward to news challenges.
Strauss, who has been serving the English team as ODI captain, has recently stepped down from the post after the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625.
He led his side to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. During his tenure, England showed great progress, especially in the year 2010, where they clinched all their ODI series.
Ashes 2010 was also a big success for England as they clinched the Test series at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, after a staggering 24 years.
England Cricket Board (ECB) has recently introduced some new changes in their cricketing structure, appointing Alastair Cook as the ODI captain, Strauss as England’s Test skipper and pacer, Stuart Broad, as Twenty20 captain.
The passionate Andrew Strauss will start his duties as a Test captain against Sri Lanka in a three-match Test series, starting on Thursday, May 26th.
The skipper also showed great fervour to fight ICC’s No.1 ranked Test team, India, saying that to beat them will be a bigger target than winning the Ashes.
"I've never beaten India in a Test series and, if we want to be the best side in the world, we've got to start by doing that”, added Strauss.
Motivating his side, the veteran said that the competitions with two big teams – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and India - will show their side’s strength and weaknesses and it will disappoint him if any of his players does not display a serious performance this summer.
England’s four-match Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 starts on July 21st.
