The English Test skipper Andrew Strauss has shown discontent with the efforts of the International Cricket Council (ICC) towards rooting out corruption from the game of cricket, which has been plagued by the menace in the recent past.
Talking to newsmen, about the prevailing situation of match-fixing in cricket, the 34-year old left-handed opening batsman Strauss said, “The only input I've had is with the anti-corruption people who came round during the World Cup.”
Strauss argued that in his personal opnion, the ICC is completely under-resourced and cannot counter match-fixing nor catch culprits responsible for fixing games.
“I haven't seen any resolve to deal with the issue. It is hard for me to comment because I don't know what's going on behind closed doors,” he said.
The English skipper also took a dig at the sub-continent by alleging that in his understanding most of the betting in cricket was rampant in the sub-continent. Expressing his views on the matter he said, “Clearly most of the betting seems to go on in the
sub-continent but I wouldn't say it was just sub-continental players that are involved. My gut feeling is there is more to it than we know about.”
In the summer of 2010, the cricket world was engulfed in the spot-fixing scandal, when three http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 were caught by a British Tabloid “News of the World”, having links with a bookie named
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed. According to the findings the a sting operation carried out by the tabloid it was revealed that the pacers Amir and Asif deliberately bowled no-balls against England in a Test played at Lord’s.
This caused an embarrassment for both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).  The players were immediately banned by the PCB from taking part in the remaining matches of the tournament.
Later the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 also imposed a temporary ban on the trio, effectively putting their international career on hold until a formal hearing could decide their fate.
Consequently, the three were found guilty of all charges in a hearing organized by the cricket’s governing body, convened in Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986 in February, 2011. The players have been banned for a minimum of five years from the sport, during this time they cannot
take part in any cricket event organized by the ICC or the affiliate cricket boards of member countries.
After the debacle, the ICC made tall claims of going after the menace of fixing, however, no worth mentioning step has so far been taken in this direction. Even during the world cup there were claims by certain Sri Lankan critics of the possible existence
of spot-fixing in the Sri Lankan squad. The allegations were, however, blatantly rejected by Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Strauss will lead his side in the first Test match at Cardiff against the Lankans on Thursday.
