England U-19 v South Africa U-19 – First Innings Recap
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 Under-19s, in the second match of the Youth One Day International (ODI) series, at the County Ground, Northampton, on July 18, 2011.
The star of the show for the home team was the medium-pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aneesh-Kapil-c44658, who grabbed a four-wicket haul to break the back of the South Africa batting.
The home team won the toss and elected to bowl in conditions which were bound to help the seam bowlers.
However, the visitors were off to a very good start through their top-order batsmen as they negotiated the early spell of the English fast bowlers.
Wicketkeeper/batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Quinton-de-Kock-c82885, played some extra-ordinary strokes in trying circumstances to seal the advantage for the visitors. He was ably supported by Shaylin Pillay as both of them scored 73 runs for the second wicket partnership.
The English bowlers bounced back in style and made some crucial inroads in the Proteas batting. The middle-order batsmen from South Africa failed to make an impression in the match and could not carry on with the good work done by the top
order players.
As a result, the whole team was bundled out for just 219 runs in the last over of the innings.
De Kock remained the top scorer for the Proteas as he made a brisk 69 off 83 balls in which he struck eight fours and a six. Pillay was the only other notable contributor as he scored 47 runs off 68 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries.
Ironically, 22 extras were the third highest score for the South Africans.
Kapil remained the pick of the bowlers for the home team as he grabbed four crucial scalps after giving away only 36 runs in 9.4 overs. Sam http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wood-c98110 ably supported him by picking up a couple of vital wickets in the middle of the innings. Reece
Topley and Jamie Overton also picked up a victim each to help their team’s cause.
This was by no means a winning total for the visitors and they would have to bowl and field very hard in order to defend this.
