England U-21 versus Czech Republic U-21 – Under 21 European Championships: First half review (Part 2)

striker was clean through on goal but his hopes of producing a finish were put to dust when the linesman on the far side raised his flag to signal an offside against Sturridge. The replays confirmed this decision as the Chelsea man was in behind the Czech

In the 10th minute of the match, England linked up brilliantly in Czech Republic’s defensive half of the pitch when Daniel Sturridge and Welbeck exchange passes just outside the Czech Republic penalty area. Welbeck played
the ball to Sturridge who played it towards Welbeck once again. The Manchester United striker found himself in space inside the penalty area but his eventual shot was parried away by the Czech goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik.
In the 17th minute, Czech Republic’s U-21 team carved open the English back line when Marecek unleashed a powerful first time volley as he connected with a cross from out wide. However Fielding was on form for the three
lions as he leaped to his right to deny Czech’s their first goal of the encounter. In the 18th minute, England hit back at Czech Republic with a counter attack of their own. This time the ball fell to Sturridge who tried to curl it past Vaclik but
the young goalkeeper was up to the task as he easily held onto the tame effort.
In the 21st minute, England knitted another impressive move when Smalling played the ball out wide to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scott-Sinclair-c32675 with a lofted ball in behind the Czech
defence but the Swansea striker failed to reach the ball despite his best efforts as it went out of play for a goal kick. In the 27th minute, Cleverley was in the thick of it all once more when he connected with a cross from Bertrand. However the
young midfielder was unable to find the back of the net as his volley struck the side netting.
Just before the half time whistle, England had another chance to score as the ball fell to Sinclair just outside the Czech penalty area. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 winger wasted no time as he let loose a powerful shot at Vaclik’s goal
but the youthful goalkeeper parried the ball away once more. Shortly after the first half came to an end with the score line at nil all. England had the better of the chances in the first half but their wayward finishing meant that they failed to open the
scoring at the Viborg Stadion.
