England Under-19s v Pakistan Under-19s – ICC Under-19 World Cup (Warm-Up Match) – Match Update
A massive 133 by Ben Foakes saw the England Under-19s powering their way to a 5-wicket victory over the Pakistan Under-19s during their http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Edward-James-McKenzie-Cowan-c55398 Kratzman Oval in Brisbane today on August 7.
Skipper Adam Ball elected to field first after the England-Under 19s won the toss. Pakistan’s innings were opened by Sami Aslam (10) and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122 (0), but the top order remained shaky, with Jamie Overton (7-2-22-3) proving to be the bane of the
Pakistani batsmen.
Azam was dismissed on duck by Overton in the 2nd over while Aslam was caught and bowled in the 8th over, leaving the Pakistan U-19s at 15 for 2. Overton was on a roll, and went on to round off his 3-wicket haul with the dismissal of
Umar Waheed (4) in the 12th over.
However, Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq (79) and Saad Ali (100) proved tougher to dislodge, establishing a solid 174-run stand which got the team up to 200 by the 39th over. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Ball-c41883 (9-0-52-2), however, did not allow the partnership to progress further,
sending Imam-ul-Haq back to the pavilion, and following that up with the wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nawaz-c77155 (11) in the 43rd over.
After Ali was run out by Jamie Overton in the 45th over, Pakistan had reached 227 for 6. An unbeaten 54-run partnership between wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Qadir-c94698 (31*) enabled the team to post a final total of 281 by the end of 50
overs – a target which posed a substantial challenge.
However, two mammoth century-stands enabled the England Under-19s to easily reach 283 by the 44th over, with 5 wickets down.
Opener Alex Davies was fairly unremarkable, sent packing at 1 by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zia-ul-Haq-c98603 during the 3rd over. However, Daniel Bell-Drummond (91) and Ben Foakes (133) teamed up for a solid 2nd wicket 116-run stand, which easily got the team up to
134.
Pakistan finally managed a breakthrough with Bell-Drummond’s dismissal at the hands of Usman Qadir (7-1-48-2) in the 25th over, which was followed swiftly by another wicket in the very next over, as Ben Duckett (3) was bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 skipper Azam.
However, Craig Overton (30*) proved to be yet another effective partner for Foakes, and the duo established the second 116-run stand of England’s innings, getting their side up to 255 by the 41st over.
Foakes’ prized wicket was finally claimed by Mohammad Nawaz, but he had done enough for the side, and Craig Overton oversaw the remainder of the chase, aided by Ball (who contributed 17 before being sent back to the pavilion by Qadir) and Sam http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wood-c98110 (2*).
Rounding up a successful chase, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 U-19s managed to reach 283 for five by the 44th over, with 36 deliveries still remaining.
