England Under-19s v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 Under-19s – 6th Youth ODI – First Innings Recap
South Africa Under-19s just managed to score 177 runs in the 6th One Day International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775 on the July
28, 2011. The Proteas were currently leading the 7-match series 3-1.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Ball-c41883 won the toss for the home team and decided to bowl first on conditions which were expected to assist the seam bowlers.
It turned out to be a great toss to win for England as they took four top order wicket of the visitors for just 69 runs on the board. However, James Price and Shaylin Pillay saved the Proteas from complete disaster and scored 71 runs for
the fifth wicket partnership.
Fast bowler, Prenelan Subrayen, also chipped in with a little cameo at the end of the innings to help his team to post a respectable score on the board. Only four South African batsmen were able to reach double figures and this is the reason
why they could only score 177 runs in their innings.
Price remained the top scorer for his team as he scored a crucial 48 which came off 64 balls with the help of five boundaries. Wicketkeeper/batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Quinton-de-Kock-c82885, also shined with 40 runs for which he consumed only 44 balls and struck
five fours. Pillay and Subrayen scored 30 and 25 runs respectively.
The most disappointing thing about the South African effort was the fact that these four failed to carry on with their starts. It was a difficult pitch for the new batsmen but things became easier when any batsman had his eye in, but the
four of them failed to capitalize on the start, and their team struggled as a result.
The pitch offered some help to the spinners as well and this is the reason why, off-spinner, Peter Burgoyne, picked up four important wickets for his team. Adam Ball and Brett Hutton also claimed a couple of scalps each to help their team’s
cause.
This by no means is a big total by the Proteas and they will have to bowl and field out of their skins to win this match.
