Batting first, England Under-19s posted an imposing score of 300 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Tuesday, 26 July 2011.
The English batting department performed outstandingly, playing attacking cricket throughout the 50 overs. While the top-order laid a solid foundation, the succeeding batsmen carried the momentum forward and put the side in a strong position in the crucial
contest.
The Poms took full advantage of South African skipper, Keaton Jennings’ decision to field first after winnings the toss.
Jennings misjudged the conditions, feeling that the wicket will help new-ball bowlers. However, it was not the case as the two English openers, Daniel Bell-Drummond and Sam http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wood-c98110, hammered Proteas bowlers in the powerplay overs.
Both batsmen shared a thrilling 133-run partnership, which eventually guided the side to a massive total. The South African skipper tried all of his options to steal a wicket but nothing was going in their favour until Jennings brought himself into the attack
and provided the side a much-needed breakthrough.
Wood was the first man who went back, after contributing 57 runs. In his next over, Jennings showed Bell-Drummond the way back to pavilion. The 17-year-old right-hander top-scored the English innings, smashing an aggressive 72-run-knock.
Although, the South Africans dismissed both well-set English batsmen in quick succession, that did not inflict any pressure on the following players. Sam Kelsall and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aneesh-Kapil-c44658 continued the good work and reached their half centuries quickly.
Kelsall collected 64 runs while Kapil left the field after gathering 54 runs. In the death overs, the brutal stroke-play by the skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Ball-c41883 (24 off 14) and Peter Burgoyne (18 from 9), steered the home side to 300 for the loss of five wickets in the
given 50 overs.
From the Proteas bowling department, Prenelan Subrayen and Jennings grabbed two wickets each while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rabian-Engelbrecht-c83214 claimed a scalp.
In order notch the triumph, the tourists required 301 runs at scoring rate of over-six per over.
