England Women reach Sri Lanka for ODI and T20 series
England Women Cricket team has reached Sri Lanka to play limited-overs series against the home side. The 10-day long tour includes a two-match ODI series followed by three T20 Internationals. The opening One Day International between
the two sides would be played at Colombo (NCC) on Sunday, 14th of November.
Upon arrival in Sri Lanka, Charlotte Edwards, the England women's captain said that the side would not be complacent against the home side despite of being favourites.
"We are favourites, but when you are playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, it is always hard playing a team at home. So we won't be complacent because we know what we are going to be up against," said Edwards.
The visiting skipper further added that the Lanka side has been an ever-improving team over the past few years. Edwards, 30, said that every time they have played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 they found it an improved side than before. She
said that though her side would enter the series as favourites with a confidence of winning the series, but they would not be taking Lankans as an easy opposition.
Edwards, who made her ODI debut on 15th August 1997 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 Women at Bristol, is just two matches away from becoming the most capped One Day player in women’s cricket. So far she has played 140 One Day Internationals
for England while the most capped cricketing women, Karen Rolton of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, has made 141 One Day appearances.
Edwards’ first game as captain was also in Sri Lanka back in 2005. The England captain was hopeful that she would be successful in gaining the world record for the most number of caps in the forthcoming two-match ODI series against
Sri Lanka though she did add “that's more on a personal note."
Edwards said the Sri Lanka tour would be quite helpful for the team to prepare for bigger assignments ahead, including Ashes and the 2012 T20 World Cup. "The objective of this tour is to get some cricket in our off season in preparation
for the Ashes series against Australia in January. This tour is vital in preparation for that trip and also in for the 2012 Twenty20 World Cup which is going to be held in Sri Lanka.”
England is also eying the 2013 50-over World Cup and this is the reason they have given four of the academy girls a chance to visit subcontinent. The four new faces include Lauren Griffiths, Fran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wilson-c98046, Beth MacGregor and Susie
