England has edged closer to victory on the third and final day of their first practice game on tour of UAE against the ICC Combined Associate and Affiliate XI, courtesy of a strong bowling display by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465. The match is currently being played at the
Global cricket Academy, Dubai, January 9th, 2012.
Being set a target of 261, the Poms have posted 177 for 3 – needing 84 runs from the remaining 30 overs left in the day.
Despite performing poorly in their first innings, which saw them make just 185 for 8 dec, the bowlers kept their good work and skittled the ICC XI for just 164 (for 9 dec).
Resuming the final day on 90 for 5, the ICC XI failed to cope with the bowling of their opponents, adding just 74 to their overnight score. The main game changer proved to be pacer, Stuart Broad, who kept his fine comeback run intact with a three-wicket
haul to end the match with a total of seven scalps.
He was well supported by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806, who grabbed a wicket a piece. However, with the ICC XI taking a healthy lead of 96 from their first innings, it meant that they set up their opponents a challenging
261.
The visitors reply was brisk after opening pairing of skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 added 63 inside 12 overs. Cook departed after making 26 but his captain kept on hitting the bowlers to keep the chase on track.
Strauss duly registered his fifty and continued his good form to post 78 before the bowling side made a couple of quick inroads. The skipper was scooped up by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RM-Haq-c2336 while Kevin Pietersen’s poor run in the game persisted as he could only make 1 to leave
his team in a bitter of bother at 136 for 3.
However, the ever reliable dup of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 then steadied the innings as the two took the team score past 150. Bell improvised by hitting a couple of scorching boundaries, bringing his team closer to the winning margin.
