England aiming for number one spot: Andy Flower
England Cricket team director, Andy Flower has lauded the efforts of the 2010-11 Ashes winning team. But on the other hand, he has said that England must not take its 3-1 victory over Australia for granted and should aim higher.
Flower has tipped the current English side as the future number one, but he also feels that tons of hard work should be done in order to reach the top of the podium.
Flower said, “Our celebrations were good, and well deserved by the players. We had a good time and I think the guys are reflecting on a job well done. But our ultimate goal is to be No. 1 in the world, and in no way would I demean the Ashes series in saying
that.”
The visitors won the first Test series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 24 years. In doing so, they will be taking the urn back to UK. England sealed the series in the fifth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground as they trounced the home side by a significant margin of
an innings and 83 runs.
The coach added, “Any series against any international nation is important in its own right, and any Test win is a very proud moment for me and our players. I think it would be disrespectful to view it any differently.”
The touring side is preparing to prove their mettle in the upcoming One Day International series against the Kangaroos as well. It will be the last opportunity for both the sides to tune themselves ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, which is going
to be played in February on the placid tracks of subcontinent.
The second leg of the tour consists of two Twenty20 internationals and seven ODIs. The touring side has already announced its squad for the limited overs game. James Anderson is one of the surprise exclusions from England’s Twenty20 squad, though he will
be back in the playing eleven for the ODIs.
The first Twenty20 kick-starts on 12 January 2011 and is going to be played on the brilliant batting strip of the Adelaide Oval. England are the World Champions in the shortest format of the game and will be looking to impose themselves on the home side.
