The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has renewed the contract of Andy Flower as team director of the England cricket team.
The board on Tuesday said in a statement that the Zimbabwean had committed himself to a renewed permanent role.
“Andy Flower has made a huge impact during his time as England team director and I am delighted that he has committed to the role,” said the ECB managing director http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hugh-Morris-c63550.
“Andy's outstanding leadership, commitment, and his open and honest approach have been key factors in the success the England squad has enjoyed over the last two years,” he added further.
The statement, however, did not reveal anything about the tenure of Flower in the renewed role.
It was under Flower’s able coaching that the England cricket team earned their first-ever International Cricket Council title as they won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 championship in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. During his two-year tenure with the team as its head coach,
Flower also guided the Andrew Strauss-led England team to successive Ashes wins as well as to the third place in the ICC Test rankings, behind http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Morris expressed confidence in Flower’s capabilities and hoped the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 wicketkeeper will continue to help the team improve as their ultimate goal is to earn bragging rights in all the three formats of cricket.
The 43-year-old former wicketkeeper batsman was promoted from assistant coach to the head coach role at a short notice in 2009 when his predecessor, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Moores-c81848 was dismissed following a row with the then England skipper Kevin Pietersen, who also lost his
captaincy job.
Flower was also pleased over the extension of his contract with the ECB. He also expressed satisfaction over England team’s progress over the past two years.
“Regaining the Ashes in 2009 and retaining them last winter and the 2010 World Twenty20 title are obvious highlights, but there is still plenty more we want to achieve in the longer term,” he added.
