England announces its women squad for Ashes series
With the men’s team already on tour, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced its women squad for the Ashes tour of early next year. Fast bowler Katherine Brunt, left-arm spinner Holly Colvin and right-handed batsman Beth
Morgan will return to the side after being included in 15-member squad for the Australia tour.
The 25-year-old right-arm pacer missed the tour of Sri Lanka earlier this month so as to undergo strength and conditioning training at home in order to prepare herself for the more crucial Ashes series against Australia. The left-arm
orthodox bowler Holly Colvin, on the other hand, took the time off from international cricket to focus on her university studies and is now all set to rejoin the England duty in full form.
The English women returned home last week after a successful tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. The squad for the recently concluded Sri Lanka tour also included some fresh Academy graduates who successfully made their breakthroughs to the international
cricket. Though all of them made the best of opportunities offered to them in the absence of three experienced players, Susie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
The Head of England Women's Cricket, Clare Connor told the media reporters about the changes made in the squad. "After an unbeaten tour to Sri Lanka, the selectors have made a few adjustments to the squad that will travel to Australia,"
said Connor.
The English women lifted the urn for the first time in 42 years when they won the 2005 home Ashes series. Their last Ashes victory was scripted in 1963. Since 2005, the urn has been held by the English women as they won the 2007 Ashes
in Australia before drawing the 2009 series at home. Connor was confident that the side has the potential to bring the Ashes urn home for the 4th consecutive time.
"Every cricketer dreams of a tour to Australia and I am confident that this squad will return with many successes to speak of, most notably with the Ashes retained."
Both the Ashes rivals are scheduled to play three ODIs, five T20 Internationals and a four-day Test match during the three-week long tour of Australia which begins at Perth from 5th of January next year.
The squad includes: Charlotte Edwards (captain), Katherine Brunt, Holly Colvin, Jenny Gunn (vice-captain), Lydia Greenway, Lauran Griffiths, Isa Guha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915
(wicketkeeper), Fran Wilson and Danielle Wyatt.
