http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 upfront in a 4-3-3 formation for the Three Lions.
On the other hand, Gary Speed included several Premier League players in his starting eleven. Steve Morrison and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Bellamy-c9471 started upfront in a 4-4-2 setup.
The game got off to a rollicking start for England as they were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 stepped
up and calmly slotted his shot into the bottom left corner, sending keeper the wrong way to make it 1-0 for the Three Lions.
England dominated the proceedings in the opening exchanges and created several decent opportunities as well.
Capello’s side doubled their advantage on the 15th minute mark. Glenn Johnson and Ashley Young made a lovely counter attacking run from the midfield before the latter played a low cross to Darren Bent, who smacked his shot into the top corner
to make it 2-0 for England.
The game looked sealed after the second goal, as the visitors continued to mark their dominance over the Welsh side. The Three Lions kept more than 65 per cent of the possession and ruled the midfield game. Wales were totally anonymous in the opening half
hour’s play and could not threaten the England defence at all.
England had a wonderful opportunity to score their third of the evening, just before the half time whistle. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 played a throw in towards Young, who took it on a half volley and his powerful shot went just whiskers over the bar.
The second half began with a slow start and the first chance of the half came on the stroke of hour mark when Glenn Johnson played a horrendous pass to Wales forward Morrison but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 came in his way to clear the ball to safety. Couple of minutes later,
Terry’s poor header allowed Morrison and Andy King to set up http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Ramsey-c3065 clear on goal but the Welsh skipper fizzed his shot way over the bar.
Neither of the sides could create any threatening opportunities later in the game and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 slumped to their fourth successive defeat of the tournament and their hopes of making it to the Euro 2012 diminished with the result.
