England bowler Graeme Swann thinks spin will not dominate in Subcontinent – ICC World Cup 2011
England’s off-spinner, Graeme Swann, doesn’t agree with the idea that spinners will be dominant in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, which is being played in the Subcontinent. Swann is considered to be one of the finest spinners amongst the current generation of bowlers.
After England’s opening match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 in the mega event, many cricket experts suggested that the Poms should go with another specialist spinner in their playing-11 as the fast bowlers didn’t have a good game. The stand out performer in the match with the ball was Swann, who took two wickets for just 35 runs in his 10 overs.
The wily off-spinner stated, “Personally I'd always go in with two spinners anywhere in the world - because I'm a spin bowler and love having a spin twin at the other end, but I think it is hit or miss in India with spin.”
Swann further added that the perception of spinners playing a huge part in a team’s success in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 was wrong. He hinted at his team’s opening match and claimed that there was very little spin off the deck and that doesn’t trouble the batsmen.
England may go with Michael Yardy in their next match, which will be against the World Cup hosts, India on 27th February. If that happens, Ravi Bopara will be sidelined from the squad, who scored an unbeaten 30 against the Dutch team to guide England to a victory.
Commenting on his own form, Swann claimed that he was satisfied with the way he bowled. He admitted that he wasn’t at his best in a couple of limited-over matches, which he played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in recent times. However, he was delighted to be back on track with his accurate bowling.
The veteran off-spinner was a touch unlucky in the first match as the centurion for Netherlands, Ryan ten Doeschate, nearly became his victim. However, James Anderson and Kevin Pietersen didn’t communicate well when the ball was skied high by Doeschate and it landed safely between the two fielders.
The Poms were below par on the field as there were plenty of chances missed in the game against the Dutch. However, they are a very good fielding unit and they will need to be focused against India in the second pool match of the tournament.
