England bring in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JC-Tredwell-c1676 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 off-spinner, James Tredwell, to the Test squad, which is currently contesting India in the four-match series.
The spinner will fly out to the sub-continent ahead of the third Test, and will take his place in the current group as the third spinner, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Monty-Panesar-c2024.
He was omitted from the initial national team squad and was further not made a part of the England’s Performance Programme, which are also currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. However, given the nature of the sub-continent tracks, and the extended workload of the two spinners, the management decided to call Tredwell as a cover.
"Tredwell has performed really well for us," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362, England's team director said. "He can make a real impact as a spin bowler. He is arriving in Kolkata as cover. We have some spinners with the performance programme but Tredwell is our senior spinner and will stay with us for the Tests."
The player has featured in only one Test so far, with the appearance coming in 2010 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. He played a crucial part in helping the side claim a 2-0 series lead after taking six wickets in the match. While he has been overlooked for the Team’s test endeavours after that, he has gradually build a place in the limited-overs side under the current rotational policy.
He was included in the 2011 World Cup squad, and further was the team’s first choice spinner in the last home ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. He has also been named as the premier spinner for the next year’s ODI series against India.
"We are constantly looking to manage the workload of players as effectively as possible and this winter is no different," national selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Miller-c58870 said after naming the limited-overs squad.
Tredwell, who was recently appointed as Kent’s permanent skipper, has featured in 128 first-class matches, taking over 300 wickets at 34.68. His inclusion in the Test squad will provide the team with an experienced spin bowling option, and an able deputy to Swann and Panesar, both of whom claimed 19 wickets in the recently concluded second Test to help their side level the series.
