England took on New Zealand in one of the most crucial encounter’s in the world t20, not just for the 2 teams involved but for South Africa and more importantly Pakistan, but most of it depends on how things work out in the first match of the day.
England are already safe with 2 wins in their first super 8 matches, while New Zealand have managed one win in 2 matches, as they lost to South Africa in the 1st super 8 match but won a thriller against Pakistan by just one run registering their first 2 points on the board in the 2nd round, and now the equation for them is simple; win the match an move in to the semi finals, as then they would have 4 points regardless if South Africa win or lose.
No doubt they have a better net run rate then proteas, but If South Africa lose and New Zealand also lose to England, Pakistan will have a clear passage through to the semi finals, and they have a superior run rate then South Africa and New Zealand.
New Zealand have not managed to win a major multination trophy in their cricketing history, apart from their win in the Icc champions trophy, they have a habit of falling at the semi final stage, in most events and 3 times Pakistan have been their bogey team when it comes to the semi final stages, going all the way back to 92 world cup, 99 world cup and the semi final of the 2009 T20 world cup.
New Zealand known as the black caps have abundance of talent among their ranks, the raw pace of Shane Bond who can shake up any batting line up, yes he has lost some yards as years have gone by, but he still remains a force to be reckoned with. The captaincy of one of the most level headed people In world cricket Danniel Vettori, and not to forget his calculated and tight left arm spinners, while at the top of the order Brendon Mccullum has to fire, his form is imperative to their chances. Ross Taylor in the middle order has not been himself lately, normally a very consistent batsman Taylor has just been able to find his feet, while Jessie Ryder at the top has been providing brisk attacks at the top but needs to convert the starts into bigger scores.
England meanwhile are on a roll playing their best cricket in recent times, Players like Eoin Morgan, Kieswetter and Lumb have breathed new life into the English side. While the form Kevin Pietersen has been a welcome boost for England as he has peaked at the right time, playing 2 consecutive match winning innings against Pakistan and South Africa,
Graeme Swan had also established himself as a spinner capable of making his place in all forms of cricket.
Considering all the key players in both sides it is sure to be an exiting contest, with a lot on the line for the Kiwis while England may be inclined to take it easy having already made it to the last 4, but South Africa and Pakistan were hoping and praying that England are on their game, and make it 3 out of 3 in the super 8s.
Three out of 3 is what england did but Sout Africas hopes were shatterd by Pakistan. Since both games went in favor of pakistan, South Africa was defeated by Pakistan and England beat New Zealand; Pakistan moves on to the semi finals along with England.
