England can oust India from number one spot: Shaun Pollock
Former South African pace bowler Shaun Pollock has fancied England’s chances of ousting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 from number one ranking in Test cricket.
Pollock praised the English side after their sensational show in the 2010-11 Ashes in Australia. England have retained Ashes by defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in their own backyard after 24 years.
Trailing by 1-2, Australia’s best chances were to level the series by winning the Ashes finale but after England’s brilliant first innings performance, that seems like a distant probability.
Pollock talking about both the teams said, “England have got a great squad - they've got a really settled line-up. All those guys know their role in the side and there’s real strength in depth too, because you’ve got players like Eoin Morgan on the sidelines
as well.” He went on to say, “Everyone has contributed in Australia but these are players that have played together for a long time and know each other's games well. They're feeling comfortable with each other, they're feeling comfortable with the way they
play and they're feeling comfortable that they can get through pressure scenarios."
Meanwhile, India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 are battling it out in South Africa in a three-match Test series which has proved to be an absolute thriller.
Pollock however, after watching South Africa and India clash is convinced that England who are placed at number three in Test rankings have the charisma and talent to knock the Indian side from their first position in the five-day version of the game.
Pollock believes that England have improved and are well settled as compared to the era when he was playing. “In the early part of my career, England would do a lot a chopping and changing, that's not really happening any more. Instead you could easily pick
England's squad of 15 before any tour,” he said.
The former South African praised the presence of reliable players in the current English outfit. "If you look at the side there are certain players that you can rely on to perform day in, day out. Graeme Swann is a classic example of someone who has benefited
- England found a spinner, backed him and are reaping the rewards," he said.
