England captain Andrew Strauss seeking immortality in the Ashes – Cricket News Update
English skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, is aiming to immortalise his name in England’s Test history, by becoming the first England captain after World War II, to win four successive Ashes against arch rivals Australia.
Strauss, who led his side to 2009 and 2011 Ashes wins, wants two more fights against the Aussies as he feels that he still has enough cricket left in him and lifting the Ashes four times would be a great accomplishment for the left-hand opener.
“Playing in back-to-back Ashes tours would be a realistic goal, but I'm not going to say that is definitely what is going to happen. There's a lot of cricket to be played between now and then. We will see where we are in 12 months, then another 12 months and go from there," stated Strauss.
England are the current number-one team in Test cricket, a spot they earned after beating the former number-one team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 by 4-0 this summer.
Strauss, feels that this English Test side is the best, the country, has seen in years and the team wants to do its countrymen proud by accomplishing more feats in the longest form of the game.
However, before England can get their hands on the Aussies, they have to face a hectic year ahead playing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749’s performance against these tough sides will most likely determine Strauss’ future as the captain of the national team.
The 34-year-old Strauss, believes that considering his form, he will keep playing cricket for as long as there is a genuine place for him in the Test team.
Speaking on his future, the England captain said, “As long as I'm motivated and playing well, and feel like there is still space in the side for me, then I want to continue."
“I'm still motivated and excited about the challenges we have got ahead of us,” added Strauss.
England, will be hosting Australia in 2013, to defend the urn, which they successfully retained in 2010 while playing in Australia.
After 2013, England would then play the 2013-14 Ashes in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where Strauss wants to be part of the English squad.
