England coach Andy Flower not to be available for team India – Cricket news
It has been reported that England coach Andy Flower will not be the replacement for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527 as the head coach for the new world champions India.
Reports from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) indicate that Flower and the Board are already in talks of renewing his contract as the head coach of the national team.
An ECB insider revealed that matters between Flower and ECB were at an advanced stage. According to the official, even if Flower wishes to end his existing contract, he will have to give a one-year notice which means that he will not be able to replace Kirsten
for almost 12 months in case he decides to leave his current job.
Flower is well settled in England, where he has a house and played county cricket for several years during his playing days. On the other hand, England have achieved great feats ever since he took over as the head coach of the team.
It was under his coaching that England managed to retain the recent 2010-11 Ashes series and defeated the Australians in their own backyard after 24 years. Before that, England won the 2010 Twenty20 Championship in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and the 2009 Ashes series in
England. The Poms have transformed tremendously under Flower’s supervision as many believe that he has injected the spirit of competitive cricket amongst the English players.
Since he took control as the head coach in 2009, he is believed to have ended the disharmony between some players and team management as players have shown their complete trust in his coaching abilities.
The team was considered as the favourites for the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011 which was jointly hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
England were ousted from the tournament in the quarter-final by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. During the tournament, Flower lost many key players because of injuries which left him with little options before the knockout stage. England’s injury list included players like Stuart
Broad, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 and all-rounder Kevin Pietersen.
Flower had expressed his frustration over the hectic schedule of the English team which caused the Poms to be away from home for nearly six months, playing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and then in the Subcontinent. Many in England blamed the hectic cricket schedule for
the injuries that the team had to suffer during the mega event.
This was the only reason which was believed to have encouraged Flower to consider quitting England coaching. However, the ECB has promised to address the problem and are in no mood to let Flower go.
India have eleven months of cricket in 2011 which will probably convince Flower to stay away from taking the coaching job of team India.
