England completes series sweep against Pakistan courtesy of Kevin Pietersen’s century – Cricket News Update
England cricket team somewhat avenged the loss they suffered in the Test series by inflicting a 4-0 whitewash on Pakistan. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806, the right-hand batsman, once again came to the rescue of England, as he played a swashbuckling innings of 130 runs
that paved the way for a four wicket win for the tourists.
Pietersen was declared the man of the match for his relentless efforts in the fourth ODI played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This was the right-handers second award in as many games. The 31-year-old, who found it hard to score runs in the
Test series, and averaged only 11.16, was glad to return to form and make the most of it.
England lost the Test series 3-0 to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, but the visitors did not lose hope, and bounced back in the ODI series. Pietersen believes that the turnaround was the result of the hard work the English team has put into their game after the Test series.
He said, “We trained very hard after the Test series and that helped us. I am extremely happy with my knock as it was very special for me and it helped us win the series.”
English batsmen had a reversal of fortune in the ODI series. None of the English batter got to triple figures in the three Test matches, but in the four ODI’s against the Men in Green they registered four centuries – two of which were scored by England’s
ODI skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, with Pietersen scoring the other two.
Pietersen, who usually bats at number four, was promoted up the batting order and opened the innings along with Cook. The ploy paid dividends for England, as he got amongst the runs.
Pietersen enjoyed opening for England and after inspiring his side to victory in the matches, he has set his sights on the Twenty20 series that follows the conclusion of the ODIs.
He said, “Opening the batting was a new experience for me. I altered my technique a bit as DRS had affected my batting. I am looking forward for the T20 series now.”
The three match T20 series between Pakistan and England will kick-off with a game at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, February 23, 2012.
