England confirm World Cup warm up matches
England have confirmed that they will play three Test matches ahead of the World Cup, as they prepare for the tournament, which takes place in New Zealand in September 2011.
England will take on Wales at Twickenham on Saturday 6 August and will then play a return game against the Welsh the following week at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
On Saturday 27 August England will visit the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to play Ireland in their last match, before they travel to New Zealand and start their World Cup campaign.
The kick off times for the three games has yet to be confirmed, but England are expected to field a strong side in all of the Tests.
England coach Martin Johnson stressed the importance of the Test matches that will take place. Speaking at a press conference, Johnson said, "These three games are an important element in our build-up and should be excellent contests."
England have been drawn in a tough group and they must place Argentina, Scotland and Georgia in Pool B.
The tournament kicks off on Friday 9 September and the All Blacks will face Tonga in the opening match.
On Saturday 10 September, England will play Argentina in a tough and crucial opening group match for both teams.
England will be favourites to get out of the group after their performance on the summer tour and their displays in the Autumn Internationals so far.
The team will be hopeful that they can finish off the international series with a win over the World Champions South Africa at the weekend.
England will then look to improve for the Six Nations and they will be aiming to win a Grand Slam before they prepare for the World Cup.
The All Blacks will be favourites to win the World Cup, but the English will believe that they will challenge for the trophy come September.
