England defender Gary Cahill urges Bolton Wanderers to play attacking football
In demand Bolton Wanderers defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 admitted his side had not had the best of the starts to the new English Premier League season and had to improve if they wished to avoid relegation. After a win over Wigan Athletic, the Trotters suffered a
2-0 defeat to Sunderland in their last Premier League fixture, leaving them in the bottom three of the Premier League table with just six points from the opening nine games.
Instead of blaming just his teammates, the 25-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international revealed he was just as much to blame as anyone else for his side’s poor form. Cahill said he was working hard at improving himself for the upcoming fixtures and urged his team
to do the same, so that they could finally gain some much needed points and climb up the Premier League table.
Cahill said while speaking to reporters:
“A few of the lads, myself included, need to have a look and question themselves over whether they are doing enough.
You can maybe afford to carry one player but you cannot afford to carry a handful and it has been different players in different games.”
In Cahill’s opinion, too many of the current players in the first team were relying on each other, which had been the main reason for the Trotter’s decline this term. He urged the players to step up their game and try and regain their fantastic home form
once again this season. Despite their ups and downs in the last campaign, Bolton Wanderers managed to maintain a highly impressive home record.
He revealed:
“Last year, we were smashing teams at home. I don't know if the confidence is down because of the heavy defeats we took against the big sides. You are only human. Your confidence is going to go down.”
It was because of the fact that they had managed to achieve that feat last season, Cahill was confident they could do the same in the current season. The English defender did not dwell too much on the losses to the big sides, but revealed he expected a better
result against the other teams. Cahill believed a change in tactics, more attacking football, could prove to be the key to help change his side’s fortunes.
The English defender continued:
“It is difficult because I was out there thinking, 'Why are we under so much pressure?' We were defending all the time. We have to sort it out.”
