Rahul Dravid, the veteran Indian batsman, has admitted that England deserved the top spot on the Test rankings following their superb performance in the four-match series against India.
Crushing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 4-0, England became the No. 1 side in the world of Test cricket. The Englishmen continued their ruthless march in the final Test at the Oval and thrashed the World Champions by an innings and eight runs, thanks to brilliant batting and bowling
recital by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501.
In contrary, the Men in Blue failed to capitalise on the situation and gave away the last seven wickets for a paltry 21. Conceding the reality that England outplayed India, Dravid termed the current English crew as the best side, he has ever played against.
"England are deservedly the No 1 ranked side in the world. This is one of the best sides I have played against who have all their key areas well covered. We should have played a lot better as we did expect a tough series," said Dravid who emerged as India’s
‘Player of the Series’ following his excellent performance with the bat – collecting 461 runs in eight innings.
Dravid’s superb show of skills remained in complete contrast to the dismal performance by his teammates throughout the competition. It seemed that it was a clash between England and Dravid since rest of the Indian batsmen failed to make any impact in the
series.
Talking about his personal form, he shared that it is important for him to play well at the twilight of his career since a lot of youngsters in the junior ranks are waiting to replace him.
"There are lot of youngsters in the reckoning and it`s important for me to keep making significant contribution to team`s cause. It`s bitter sweet feeling to have scored these runs," added the 38-year-old batsman who became the fourth highest century-maker
after hitting his 35th Test ton during the final Test.
Although, Dravid refrained from commenting on the prime reasons behind India’s debacle, he elucidated that the defeat has given India a great opportunity to sit together and learn a lesson from their mistakes.
