England dominant in final Ashes Test
England ended day three of the final Ashes Test on 488 for the loss of seven wickets. The English team dominated most of the day’s play after Australia started well. The visitors managed to extend their overall lead to 208 at stumps.
The day started well for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, as night-watchman James Anderson was out early in the day without scoring too many runs. The struggling Paul Collingwood was next man in, but didn’t manage to trouble the home team much, as he became Michael Beer's first
victim in Test cricket.
Collingwood was out after scoring 13 runs, when the total was 226. After that Alistair Cook was joined by Ian Bell. Cook was unbeaten on 61 at the close of yesterday’s play and he continued his impressive run-scoring form in the series.
He brought up his century and was well supported by Bell, who continued his good form in the Ashes. The pair gave their team a 154-run stand for the sixth wicket, and helped them build a big lead over Australia. Cook however, missed out on his double ton
as he was dismissed for 189. After his dismissal, Bell was joined by Matt Prior, and the pair put up another century stand for the English team to put their team in a very strong position.
Bell, who was unable to convert his fifties into centuries this series, took advantage of his latest opportunity. He managed to convert his start into a well-played century, before getting out for 115 runs. However, Bell would have been disappointed, as
he gave his wicket away just when the close of play was nearing. Prior played his strokes and reached a quick-fire fifty. He was joined by Tim Bresnan and both the batsmen remained unbeaten until close of play.
The Australian bowlers had a hard outing yet again. Mitchell Johnson picked-up three wickets to lead the attack. Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949, Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle took one wicket each. England is yet again in a very good position in the Ashes.
The visitors will be looking to increase their lead further when play resumes tomorrow. They will be looking to bat just once in this match.
Australia however, will be under lot of pressure. The bowlers will be hoping to bowl out the opposition as early as possible tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how the Australians cope with the pressure in the next two days.
