England dominates ICC’s Test Team of the Year – Cricket News Update
Following an exceptional round up at the recently wrapped up Test series against the Indian tourists, earning the world’s Test summit, in a current affair, England went on mark its dominance after 5 of its potent players landed on the International Cricket
Council’s (ICC) Test Team of the Year.
The ‘dream team’ roster came out after a tough and thorough selection procedure based on the players’ recent performances and was announced by a much able panel led by West Indian batting legend Clive Lloyd; who for the matter stated “the selection was a
difficult process with so many outstanding performances available to look back on. All the top performers during the voting period were discussed at length and various combinations were considered.”
The Test team comes as part of the upcoming LG ICC Awards, scheduled to take place in London, next month, in September.
As for England’s dominance on the line-up, the team’s five players found themselves a place on the elite roster following their side’s impressive overall performance under the Test format throughout the selection period, marked out between August 11, 2010,
and August 13, 2011.
During the spell, England has secured a notable Test performance, earning 7 wins from a lot of 11 matches, eventually marking an overall top spot as the World’s Test Champions.
Coming to the players; the five Englishmen included, batsmen Alastair Cook, and Jonathan Trott, followed by all rounder Stuart Broad, spin maestro Graeme Swann, and highlight pace-man, James Anderson.
As for other likely English nominees that may have been considered on the roster, Lloyd stated, “While selecting the squad, the selectors didn’t rely only on statistics only but took into account all other factors like the opposition, pitch conditions, match
situation, et cetera,”.
The former skipper went on to add that when one is left out a 12 spot list, it becomes difficult to pick a minor lot from a massive assortment of world-class players.
Apart from English players, other cricketers to have earned a spot on the Test team included, South Africa’s Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn, followed by Indians players, Sachin Tendulkar, and Zaheer Khan (12th man)
and finally Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.
