Hughes outlined these views in his column for ‘The Telegraph today’ following the Poms’ glorious and tremendous victory in 2nd npower Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, at Trent Bridge on August 1.
The former player opines that India, which currently pose to be the top-ranked team, has gone off-track due to constant injuries and the two defeats in a row have shattered their morals badly. He has even predicted that the English are just one step away
from getting No 1 position and can gain it in the next week.
Hughes thinks that England has the potential to thrive, as their playing XI is made up of youngsters with an average age of 28 and another fresh crop of fervent young cricketers are ready to make inroads in the squad.
He says that a big reason for the English players’ success is the availability of abundant resources including coaches, grounds, revenue, bowling machines and other logistical facilities, which help the youngsters polishing their skills.
Comparing England with the ace cricketing teams of the past, Hughes argues that though the English team does not have big names like those in Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 of the Eighties and Nineties, they have the fighting spirit and game sense, which assists
them outplay any big adversary of cricket.
Hughes hailed the diligence, unity and ideal fitness of the Poms and termed these features to be exceptional only in this team.
The 51-year-old former all-rounder has 205 First-Class and 202 List A matches to his credit. He made his debut in 1980 and remained at the top of the game till 1993. However, he could not get a chance to play for his national team.
