England in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746: Chris Woakes satisfied with debut
Chris Woakes, the English all-rounder, who made his debut in a recently concluded Twenty20 international match against Australia, is pleased with his match-winning performance under the lights at the Adelaide Oval.
The talented English all-rounder believes that he has the ability to perform under pressure, as he can keep his cool in troublesome situations. He says he is good enough to play a ‘man of the crisis’ role for his team, whenever needed.
The visitors defeated the home side in a thrilling encounter by a narrow margin of one wicket. Woakes’ unbeaten 19-run innings led his team to victory off the last ball of the final over.
England needed four runs to win the game in the last over. Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489. Shehzad then scampered for a quick single and gave the strike to Woakes. The
debutant then hit the ball to deep point and picked up two runs. With England requiring one run off the last ball, Woakes kept his cool, hit the ball for a boundary over midwicket and sealed the win.
With that win, England took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match Twenty20 series.
Woakes said, “It was a matter of trying to stay calm. I knew we batted all the way to No. 11. It hasn't really sunk in yet. I was just happy to make my debut, it was a huge honour for me. It was a great achievement for myself and the team to win the game.”
He added, “I was a bit nervous before my first ball but I think it would be wrong not to have a few nerves on your debut. I thought I did okay, I could have gone a bit better, but overall I was pretty pleased.”
The second game of the series will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. England will be looking to whitewash Australia while the Kangaroos will be trying desperately for a victory.
