England in Australia: Shaun Marsh called in for injured Michael Hussey
Australia’s middle-order batsman Shaun Marsh has been called in to replace injured batsman Mike Hussey in Australia’s One Day International squad against England.
Marsh, who missed out in the final-15 World Cup squad, has been added in the squad for the next three ODI matches against England. He will most probably act as a standby if Hussey is ruled out of the World Cup due to his hamstring injury.
Hussey suffered the injury during Australia’s six-wicket win against England in the first ODI. The 35-year-old left-hander was dismissed for 21 at Melbourne after he suffered a “significant” injury while completing a second run. Hussey underwent a surgery
on his left leg just hours after Australia’s chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch announced the 15-member squad for the World Cup on Tuesday.
“Whilst the injury appeared to be minor at the time and soon after the game, scans have since revealed that he has avulsed one of the hamstring tendons from the attachment point at the inner side of his knew,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123, the team physiotherapist told
the media.
Kountouris hoped that he will be available for February’s ICC World Cup 2011 in the sub-continent. However, he admitted that his recovery will depend on the progress of the rehabilitation program in the coming weeks.
Hussey will be racing against time as Australia’s World Cup opening game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
However, it was good news for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 at Perth.
He will be joining the Australian squad in Hobart on Wednesday to prepare for their second ODI in the seven-match series against England.
Marsh has been in top form with his state in the 2010-11 season after he played in the opening ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in November 2010. If Hussey does not recover from the injury, it is expected that Marsh will soon follow his father’s footsteps, Geoff Marsh,
who was a member of the 1987 winning World Cup team.
