The hard-hitting top order batsman of India, Gautam Gambhir, thinks England is the team besides South Africa that they would love to beat at the moment.
While talking to the media reporters on Friday, the 29 year old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 batsman said that he would try his absolute best to give his team an encouraging start against Poms, given he gets selectors’ nod for the England itinerary.
"Well, let me get picked first,” said Gambhir when asked about his plans for the Test series against England starting next month. “If I am, like always I'd put my heart and soul into the effort to get my team to a good start,” he added further.
Besides being the World Champions, India are the World’s number one Test team at the moment and Gambhir said that they would love to prove a point against England, who had humiliated formidable Aussies in the 2010-11 Ashes series by 3-0.
He said that beating the Poms in front of their home crowd would endorse India’s credentials as World’s number one Test team.
“I think England is the team to beat besides South Africa at the moment,” said Gambhir”. "They have their tails up boasting a world class bowling attack which has really tall fast bowlers and a spinner who is pretty good as well," he added further.
Gambhir is also looking forward to their tour of Australia later this year as he said, “If we do well in both England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 I think we'd have honoured our status of being the number one Test team."
Gambhir was not picked for the ongoing tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011 and aggravated during the recently concluded season four of the lucrative Indian Premier League.
Earlier the former India captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 had also warned Dhoni and his men in blue of England’s pace attack.
"It will be hard to beat England, in England. Their bowling attack looks all right with Broad, Tremlett and Anderson. It's going to be a tough series," said Ganguly.
India, current playing West Indies at their home grounds, will play England in four Tests, one Twenty20 International and five One Day Internationals. India will kick-start its http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 tour on July 21 with a Test match at Lord’s.
