England looking to capitalise in second Ashes Test
Australia is trailing by 137 with 6 wickets in hand after the end of the fourth day of the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval against arch rivals England.
England finally decided to call off their batting after securing a huge lead of 365 and sparing Australia with almost two days of batting to save the Test. Australia managed to score 238 runs for the loss of 4 wickets at the end of the fourth day. England
on the other hand has one full day to capitalize on their position.
Kevin Pietersen scored a remarkable career best of 227 to put his side in a commanding position. He was well supported with some good performances from Alastair Cook 148, Jonathan Trott 78 and Ian Bell 68 not out. Kevin Pietersen also got the important wicket
of the Australian vice Captain Michael Clarke during his cameo spell at the end of the day.
Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 was dismissed on the last ball of the day by Kevin Pieterson. Clarke was caught by Alastair Cook when his individual score was 80. England’s decision to bat today might be questioned if Australia gets help from the weather on the final day.
Bad weather is predicted on the final day of this second Test.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 got off to a solid start and the Australian openers Shane Watson and Simon Katich looked in good form. The pair played in a semi aggressive manner and scored runs all across the field.
Katich was the first one to depart when he was dismissed in the 30th over by Graeme Swann. He scored 43 runs with the help of 6 boundaries and missed out on a well deserved half century. The team total at the time of the dismissal was 84.
Graeme Swann the spin wizard from England was bowling brilliantly and was exploiting the rough spots. He caused serious trouble for the Australian batsmen. There were a lot of edges but none of them carried to the fielders. Graeme Swann later removed the
Australian skipper for 9 and the team total was 98 at the fall of Ricky Ponting. He was caught by Paul Collingwood at first slip. Ricky Ponting is struggling to get back into form and his aggregate score for the Test is also 9.
Michael Clarke the vice Captain of the Australian side replaced the Captain Ricky Ponting. Together with Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 the pair added 36 runs to the Australian total before Steven Finn decided to join the party. Steven Finn removed the Australian opener Shane
Watson when he was on 57 and was looking very dangerous.
Shane Watson was caught by the English skipper Andrew Strauss. Shane Watson scored 10 boundaries in his solid innings of 57.
Michael Hussey then arrived at the crease to join Michael Clarke. The pair proved to be a thorn in England’s path to success. They were also helped by some bad weather. The pair added 104 runs for the 5th wicket partnership before Michael Clarke
fell to Kevin Petersen on the last delivery of the day.
Michael Clarke who scored 80 runs was in supreme form. He played Graeme Swann with authority and played him all across the ground. At an individual score of 67 he was given out but used the referral system to prove that he was not out. Michael Clarke scored
11 boundaries in his knock of 80 runs.
Michael Hussey was still at the crease on 44 not out and the home side was trailing by 137 runs. England looked to get the rest of the side dismissed as soon as possible. Australian supporters will be praying for extreme showers which are predicted. A good
last day’s play is expected and it may end up into one of those nail bitters.
