England loses second hockey match to Germany 3-2 – Hockey Update
Florian Fuchs managed to score twice in the seventy-minutes of play, as Germany powered a 3-2 win over England in the second test of the two-match series being held at the Monchengladbach in Germany on August 4.
Jason Lee, the head coach of the English squad while speaking to the media after the match stated that many areas are required improvements in order to upgrade their performance. However, he declared the event helpful in evaluating their weak areas ahead
of the mega events.
He said, “There were some pleasing aspects of play but also areas we need to work on. We have the opportunity to do that in two games against Spain next week before the Europeans begin. It has been a useful trip to Germany.”
Interestingly, it was a match between European Champion England and Olympic Champion Germany – both talented hockey squads of Europe.
The game between the two hockey giants opened at very fast pace where both were trying to get the game-opener in order to establish their dominance on the field. With three minutes into the match, the English squad received their first short corner of the
day and tested Richard Smith. He did not disappoint the English team and converted the first opportunity to put England ahead on the scoreboard.
The German line-up made their defence tight and denied numerous attacks from the English side in the next 30 minutes of play. On the other side, the German strikers failed to impress the English team and remained scoreless. In the 31st minute
of the match Matt Daly notched a score from the field and doubled the tally. However, the Germens started a fast and extremely competitive game which paid off with one minute left on the clock. Moritz Furste converted a penalty stroke for Germany and closed
out the first half action with England holding a single-goal lead, 2-1.
Both the Germans and English teams moved into the second half with similar morale. However, they failed to make an addition on the scoreboard. At long last, the German attack came alive and obtained another two goals within short span of time to take the
match into their favour. Their aggressive style paid off, as they took a decent lead in the match.
Florian Fuchs of Germany displayed outstanding performance and scored a couple of goals from the field respectively in the 54th and 58th minute. The German offence stunned the English team and it was the point which put English players
under pressure and they failed to get a much needed equaliser in the remaining time period. The German team not only won the match but the series by 2-0.
