England may opt for Graham Onions in second warm-up match – Cricket News Update
Injury scare is looming large over England’s cricket team, depleting their bowling options. For this very reason, the Poms may opt for Graham Onions in the second warm-up match against Pakistan Cricket Board XI.
Onions, who was a reserve player in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Bresnan-c2711 was ruled out of the series due to an elbow injury. Chris Tremlett was an obvious choice to replace him in the playing XI but the speedster hasn’t recovered from eye infection that forced him to sit out of the first warm-up game as well.
The expression “One man’s loss is other man’s gain” best suits this situation. Onions, who was dropped from the English team following a back injury that nearly brought an early end to his cricketing career, will finally get a chance to play for England on the expense of Tremlett.
Sympathising with Tremlett, Onions said, “I feel really bad for Tim. He has been an integral part of England's side for the last year or two. Whether or not he was expecting it, I don't know. But he hadn't done any bowling, and that's probably the reason why I was out here because there were certain injury doubts over him.”
The 29-year-old is determined to pounce on the opportunity. He said, “I wouldn't say when I was playing I took it for granted. But you turn up and have the ball in your hand and then all of a sudden you get injured. That's quite hard to take. England weren't number one when I was playing. But I'm here now and I want to make a difference as part of this team.”
