Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard urged his teammates to win the coveted UEFA Champions League for the Blues owner Roman Abramovich ahead of the crucial second-leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 scored the only goal of the game to give his side a crucial away goal and advantage in the quarter-final clash
of the European competition.
However, despite being written off by many, the Chelsea midfielder believes his side can cause an upset at Old Trafford. He thinks the Blues owe it to Abramovich to finally claim the Champions League trophy, the one piece of silverware they have been unable
to get their hands on.
Abramovich took over Chelsea in 2003 and since then the Blues have flourished, partly because of his generous monetary contributions. Throughout the years, Abramovich has invested millions into the club which has helped them establish themselves as a top
club in Europe.
Since 2003 Chelsea have gone on to win three English Premier League titles, twice under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons and last season under current manager Carlo Ancelotti.
They have had success in the cup competitions, winning the FA Cup thrice in the 2006-2007, 2008-2009, 2009-2010 seasons. The Blues have previously won the Carling Cup and Community Shield as well, leaving them without a claim on the European Cup.
Abramovich’s desire, which has recently been described as his obsession, is understandable. With the amount of money he has invested in the club he is entitled to ask for results. Lampard admitted the club owed everything to the Russian and were thankful
to him.
Lampard said while speaking to reporters, “Everything I've achieved in the last 10 years has only been possible because of the owner's investment. Everything changed when Mr. Abramovich arrived in 2003. He has made a huge investment and we are all very thankful.”
The 32-year-old midfielder revealed he was determined to win the Champions League, he continued, “I'd be very proud to win the Champions League for a lot of reasons but I definitely understand the thought process that we owe it to him to win it.”
Lampard insisted the Russian billionaire never pressurized the squad in any way, he said, “He never sits us down and says "You must win the Champions League, this is the main thing". But we all know it would be a fantastic thing to him. And he deserves it
for all that he has given to the club.”
