England name Chris Tremlett as replacement for Stuart Broad - ICC World Cup 2011 news
International Cricket Council (ICC) officials have chosen the English fast bowler, Chris Tremlett, to replace Stuart Broad in the England squad currently playing in the Subcontinent. Broad has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 due to an abdomen
strain.
According to reports an ICC spokesman has said, “The ICC Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 has approved Chris Tremlett as a replacement player for the injured Stuart Broad in the England squad.”
Tremlett was a stand-by player in the English team as Stuart Broad came down with a stomach strain during his match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. Even though Broad closed out the match, he was sent for a complete abdomen scans afterwards. According to England Cricket
Board medical officer, Nick Peirce, the scans confirmed that there was a huge pull in the muscle close to his ribcage. This injury is not the same as the one he had during the 2010-11 Ashes series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. After getting the confirmation from the
medical practitioner, Broad has been sent back to England and Tremlett has taken his place in the English squad.
Tremlett, who is also known as Twiggy, started his international cricket career in 2005, when he played against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 Tigers at Nottingham. The right-arm fast bowler has played a total of 13 One Day Internationals (ODI) and gripped some 15 wickets at
an average of 41.33 with economy of 5.24. Twiggy is the son of Tim Tremlett, who was a former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 seamer. His grandfather Maurice also played for Somerset and England from 1940-1950.
The ICC officials have also stated, “The confirmation was conveyed to the England and Wales Cricket Board on behalf of the committee. Tremlett will replace Broad who is suffering from a side strain.”
So far two players have been forced out from the English squad. Before Broad, it was Kevin Pietersen, who faced a hernia injury and was sent home from the tournament. Pieterson has been replaced by Eoin Morgan.
The 29-year-old Tremlett will now be seen playing with the team in their second group match against Bangladesh on Friday, 11th http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
