England outclass South Africa to qualify for final of ICC Champions Trophy – Cricket news
After crawling their way into the semi-final of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Champions Trophy, South Africa still lost an opportunity to get their hands of any silverware by losing the semi-final to England by seven wickets on Wednesday, 19 June, at Kennington Oval, London.
Asked to bat first by the hosts, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 for nil.
England then struck gold when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Faf-du-Plessis-c1427 started to rebuild
the innings as they took the score to 45, before this partnership also met its end on the wicket of Peterson, who succumbed with 30 runs to his name.
The South African batsmen were clearly struggling against the English pace, with the bowlers preventing them from playing freely. With only 50 runs on the board, the South African fans saw their side’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 walk off the field after he was
dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JC-Tredwell-c1676 for three, putting the South Africans in a position from where they could only hope to stay out there for the remaining overs.
David Miller’s unbeaten 56 and Rory Kleinveldt’s 43 were good enough to help South Africa post 175 runs on the board in 38.4 overs.
From England, Broad and Tredwell dominated the match by sharing three wickets each, while Anderson bagged two as the English bowlers incinerated the South African batting.
With an imminent win ahead of them, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597 gave their side a stand of 22 before the English captain was removed by Chris Morris for six.
Bell and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 then led their side towards 41 runs, before Bell became the next batsman to hit the showers after he lost his wicket for 20.
Meanwhile, Trott and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 Root almost got their side home by taking the score to 146, before Root became the next wicket to fall after he had hammered 48 runs. Trott’s unbeaten 82 and Eoin Morgan’s 15 won the match for England in 37.3 overs.
England will now face the winners of the second semi-final on June 23, at Birmingham.
