England owned day-one reckons Stuart Broad – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at the Lord’s cricket ground, London, on May 17, 2012.
The West Indies lost nine wickets on the first day, six of which fell to Broad’s lethal bowling. At stumps, the tourists had piled 243 runs with one wicket in hand.
Broad believes that the English team, which owned the day, was rewarded for patience. The lanky pacer said, “Winning the toss and bowling, you're thinking 'Can you bowl them out for a hundred?' But you know Lord's is never like
that. It's a bit of a patience game. We were aiming for seven wickets in the day, to pick up nine, we're delighted.”
It proved to be a special day for Broad, as the pacer became the seventh cricketer ever, to have taken a five-wicket haul and score a century at Lord’s. Apart, from Broad two other English players, namely http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flintoff-c44360 and Ian
Botham, have accomplished this feat.
The 25-year-old from Nottingham felt honoured to have his name embossed with the likes of Flintoff and Botham. However, for Broad, his team’s accomplishments are more important than individual records.
He said, “Following 'Freddie' and 'Beefy' in the England dressing room is a huge honour. But more important today is to have got nine wickets on the first day.”
Broad started slowly on day-one, the right-arm pacer was taken for runs in his early spell. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Anton-Edwards-c71510, before they
could cause any harm.
However, Broad made amends in his second spell as he brought an end to Adrian Barath’s innings, the 22-year-old who had scored 42 runs before the Englishman showed him the doors.
Content with how he pulled things back in his later spells, Broad said, “Certainly I got driven too much. But the thing that pleased me most today is that, I managed to drag my length just a little bit back to make it more dangerous
to drive.”
