http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 players back Strauss to continue as Test captain – Cricket News Update
Whilst there have been growing calls for Andrew Strauss’s snub as England’s captain if the Poms lose their fifth Test in a row this week in Colombo, pace bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 cricketer
to continue leading the side regardless of Colombo Tests’ results.
Speaking to the media reporters ahead of the second and last Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, starting in Colombo tomorrow, Finn said that Strauss is a great captain and has the backing of the whole team to continue as the Test captain.
And Finn believes his Middlesex County colleague is still the right man to lead England in the five-day format.
"He's a great captain and everyone is behind him. It's not a conversation that has come up in the team because nobody thinks it is valid," said the 22-year-old fast bowler.
Prolific top-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576, who scored a meticulous century in the second innings of lost Galle Test, said that the dressing room has complete unanimity over the fact that Strauss is still the right person to lead the side in the five-day
format of the game.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 is our captain and he'll always be my captain as I see it,” said Trott who climbed to ninth spot on ICC’s Test batting rankings table.
"Everyone is 100% behind him. He's a fantastic leader and there is no doubt in my mind he's our captain."
England is yet to win a Test match since dethroning http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in Gulf earlier this year. The Poms opened up the short two-Test
series against Sri Lanka hoping a turnaround but the English batsmen once again failed to counter spinners on turning sub-continental pitches as they lost the series opener against the Islanders by 75 runs.
A defeat at Colombo would not only be their fifth Test defeat on a trot but will also take the World No. 1 tag away from them, as in that case Test number two http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 will take over them as the best Test side in the world.
Besides England’s ongoing lean patch, Strauss’ personal form is also a cause for concern as the left-handed opener has not scored a Test century since November 2010.
