England rugby star Mark Cueto accused of eye gouging.
England rugby star Mark Cueto has been accused of eye gouging during a premiership match played last Saturday. His deliberate act with intent may get him banned from upcoming Rugby World cup starting later this year in September. He has been asked to show cause before the Rugby Football Union Disciplinary panel on March 11.
Cueto is facing the music after he made contact with eye of Northampton’s player Christian Day. IRB laws suggest the punishment of minimum 12 weeks in such violations. The video footages have clearly shown the Sale captain Cueto quarrelling with Christian Day and then gouging at his eye.
If he is found guilty during IRB hearings he can be suspended for many months and could ultimately be deprived of a chance to play in World Cup.
Earlier England’s full back Ben Foden was arrested by local police after a row with taxi driver in London. Foden was returning from a club after celebrating his club’s Aviva Premiership victory against the Wasps last Sunday. He was accused of damaging the taxi along. Later on both of them were released on bail.
The English team has been recently deprived of a grand slam by Ireland in Dublin clash. England was expecting its first grand slam after 2003 but its dreams were shattered by Ireland by 24-8.
Both the English players would appear before RFU on the same day to explain their stances. RFU spokesman said today that: "As the national governing body for rugby in England, the Rugby Football Union expects all players to uphold the core values of the game".
