England secures Women’s 4*100m Medley Relay gold medal: Day three – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Relay team of England won the gold medal of Women’s 4*100m Medley Relay meet on the third day of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, held in the Isle of Man.
The English squad presented a dominating swim in front of the arena and acquired the podium for the gold medal of the Medley Relay, by reporting in a time of 4 minutes and 04.03 seconds. The gold winning team displayed a remarkable effort in the relay discipline
and occupied the title of the event.
They were followed by the Australian squad, which remained only 0.91 seconds slower than their former team and submitted a time of 4 minutes and 04.94 seconds for the silver medal. The third spot on the podium was secured by relay team of New Zealand, which
stayed 3.07 seconds slower than the Australian squad and posted a time of 4 minutes and 08.01 seconds.
The English team comprised of Phoebe Lenderyou, Molly Renshaw, Rachael Kelly and Sophie Smith, where Lenderyou was the first leg of the team and completed her sprint in a time of 1 minute and 00.01 seconds. Likewise, Renshaw was the breast-stroke leg of
her squad and posted a time of 1 minute and 09.76 second, while Kelly and Smith ended their butterfly and freestyle sprints, with timings of 59.64 and 54.62 seconds, respectively.
The fourth fastest spot of the swim was secured by the Scottish team, which stayed 2.92 seconds behind the bronze medallist and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 10.93 seconds. The South African relay squad appeared as the fifth best team of the respective
discipline, as it was only 0.29 seconds behind Scotland and produced a time of 4 minutes and 11.22 seconds. South Africa’s squad was followed by relay teams of Wales, as they posted a time of 4 minutes and 11.74 seconds.
In addition, the arena witnessed laudable efforts of all participating teams, while the winning squads were invited on the podium for their noteworthy efforts in the relay event after the session.
