England skipper Andrew Strauss returns for the ODI series
England's captain, Andrew Strauss will return to lead his side in the seven match ODI series against Australia, set to begin today.
The skipper, who led the team to their first Ashes victory in Australia after nearly 24 years, was not considered for the T20 series because he has retired from the shortest version of the game.
Strauss, however, would be back in the squad for the seven match series, and hoped to put England back on the winning track after the loss in the second T20, which helped Australia in levelling the series 1-1.
Strauss, commenting on his return, said, "A few days away is always quite reinvigorating. It was a long hard Ashes series, as it always is, but I'm very excited about what's to come."
The opening left-handed batsman, emphasizing the importance of the ODI series, went on to say, "There's a context to this one-day series. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 are number one in the world and we've got a World Cup around the corner". Strauss stressed that a winning
momentum before the World Cup was crucial for the English side.
The skipper also stressed the need to clinch victories in the initial matches of the series in order to put pressure on the opposition from the very beginning. The English captain admitted that his side’s win in the Ashes was now a thing of the past and
it would not have any impact on the ODI series.
With the World Cup just around the corner, the English side would be keeping their preparations for cricket’s world gala in perspective while playing against the Aussies in the 50-over series.
Ironically, the English, who actually invented the game, have never won the World Cup. However, with their current form, this is perhaps the best chance they have to turn the tables. England are already the ICC Twenty20 champions, and now a win in the Ashes
would have taken their confidence to new heights.
Speaking about the World Cup, the English skipper said, "We have an excellent chance. Our one-day cricket has improved dramatically over the last 18 months"
The ODI today will be the last game before England announce their 15-memeber World Cup squad, however, by now, it would be clear to them already which players to send to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
