England Skipper Andrew Strauss upbeat about World Cup
English skipper Andrew Strauss has expressed confidence in his team to do well in the World Cup even after losing the ODI series against Australia.
Strauss while talking to the press said, “We have one more game to show more of what we can do. We have a lot of talent and we can do a lot in the World Cup".
Strauss was talking to newsmen after England’s loss in the 6th ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
The series will end on Sunday after the seventh match at Perth. Australia lead the series 5-1.
England’s lacklustre performance in the ODI series has surprised many, considering the fact that they pulverised the Aussies in the 2010-11 Ashes.
Where the tourists defeated the hosts 3-1 and not only retained the Ashes but also managed to defeat the Aussies in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 after 24 years.
However, Australia came back hard and overran the English in the seven-match ODI series. Speaking on the ODI tournament, Strauss said, “The first few games were tight but the Australians came through them and built some momentum and some of our batsmen got
out of form. We're very disappointed but I am still very confident we are a very capable one-day side”.
England’s poor show in the ODI format of the game is alarming, considering the fact that the World Cup is just around the corner. After the triumph in the Ashes, many were hoping that England would be a force to reckon with in cricket’s mega event, which
will be jointly hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 this year.
The English skipper clarified that the team failed to find the right ODI combination in the series and was not helpful in their preparations for the cricket gala. “This series hasn't helped our preparations really because we've had lots of injuries and haven't
been able to play our best side. That was the same for Australia as well", he said.
In the 6th match, England posted a mammoth total of 333 runs, however, the Aussie batsmen proved to be too good for the unimpressive English bowling attack, which couldn’t prevent them from chasing down a daunting total.
The hosts scored 334 runs with 4 balls remaining and showed that the mighty Aussies were back on the winning track.
After this huge loss, the English management needs to re-evaluate its bowling arsenal because if they cannot defend 333 then there is a serious problem with their bowling attack.
