England start well against the West Indies - ICC World Cup update
England started their innings with confidence in a match of the ICC World Cup 2011 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. The Poms scored 132 runs for the loss of three wickets at the end of 25 overs of play.
Toss was crucial today, as the wicket was expected to cause some problems for the batsmen in the second innings. Luckily for England, the coin rolled in favour of them and captain Andrew Strauss elected to bat first.
Strauss had won the toss against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 as well, at the same venue. However, the English team weren't able to make most of the conditions in that match and were bowled out for 171. In reply to their total, the Proteas were dismissed for 165 in a close
encounter.
However, Strauss and wicketkeeper-batsman Matt Prior didn’t disappoint their team on this occasion. The pair gave a good start to their team, scoring 48 runs for the opening partnership.
Prior looked good today, but he was undone by a superb in-swinger by Andre Russell. The ball kept a touch low, but the movement of the seam was good enough for the wicketkeeper batsman, who got out after scoring a run-a-ball 21.
The first-drop Jonathan Trott walked in the middle and he started playing aggressive cricket. He normally takes his time to settle down, but the player didn’t waste much time today. The one-down batsmen struck some good boundaries at the start of his innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 captain wasn’t able to carry onto the start he got today though, as he was dismissed after adding 31 runs to the total. He attempted to pull a short ball from Russell, but failed to connect properly. The ball skied-up and Chris Gayle took a brilliant
catch.
Ian Bell and Trott took the score over 100 and things looked good for their team. However, Trott gave his wicket away to the debutant Devendra Bishoo. The veteran batsman chipped the ball straight to the hands of the midwicket fielder, Gayle. He played well
for his 47 runs off 38 balls.
At the end of the 25th over, Bell and Eoin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Morgan-c77708 were batting on 26 and six respectively. They will look to steady the ship for their team and attack in the death overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Russell-c87177 took two wickets for his team and he got good support from Bishoo, who grabbed one wicket.
