England to rest Andy Flower for Ireland game - Cricket News Update
Andy Flower, head coach England, will be taking a short break from coaching as he will not travel with team England when they go up against Ireland in the only ODI, on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at the
Clontarf Cricket Club Ground, Dublin.
The English team director however, will rejoin the Poms squad before their NatWest series against India begins.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Grant-Halsall-c85028, assistant coach, will take up the responsibility of coaching, while Flower takes a well deserved break from International cricket, as per his new contract with England Cricket Board
(ECB) he will take short breaks during their tiring international schedule.
ECB made the news public in an official statement which read, “England team director http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362 will be rested from the Ireland match before rejoining the England squad ahead of the NatWest International
T20 fixture against India on August 31. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 match in Andy Flower's absence.”
The English team brought a smile on the faces of its fans when they dethroned India from the number one Test spot on Saturday, by handing the Men in Blue a defeat of an innings and 242 runs. Under the
leadership of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 and Flower, Poms achieved this great feat for the first time since the ranking system was introduced.
The English team also won their first major trophy, ICC World Twenty20 tournament 2010, under the reign of Flower. They are yet to lose a Test series since the Zimbabwean took control of things.
The former Zimbabwean cricketer, Flower, became a part of the English team back in 2007, when he took the role of an assistant coach to aid http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Moores-c81848, who at that point of time was the helm of English
outfits. Flower was appointed as head coach on April 15, 2009, when Moores' agreement with ECB came to an end.
The English team was struggling when Flower, the 43-year-old, took charge. They were at fifth spot in International Cricket Council's (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Test rankings and had suffered back to back defeats at the
hand of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and the West Indies.
The 43-year-old former cricketer brought a revolution in the English side, they avenged the defeat suffered at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 by trouncing them 2-0 and also won the Ashes in the summer of 2009.
