England tour of Sri Lanka: It would be foolish to write-off Andrew Strauss reckons Ashley Giles – Cricket News Update
Director of cricket at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. The former cricketer has put his money on Strauss, and said that it would be foolish to write-off
a player of his calibre.
He said, “He's come back before. All I would say is he is a very dangerous man to write off because he is an exceptionally good player and good character. You are risking making yourself look a bit silly if you write him off.”
The English skipper has not been amongst the runs lately, and a lot of criticism has been coming his way. Giles held that there is a time in every cricketer’s career, when they receive criticism. However, the former cricketer was confident that Strauss will
silence the doubters.
It has been fifteen matches since the left-hander last scored a century. The 35-year-old has only scored 459 runs in his last 11 matches at an average of 25.50, as opposed to his career average of 41.15.
Giles wants the criticism to end, and has urged the media to let Strauss and the English team, which has lost four back to back Test matches, get on with their game.
He said, “Everyone has their moments from the media and as captain to a degree you expect to get it or, as an international batsman if you are not scoring the runs you would like. Let's http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 to the facts. Andrew would admit he would like more runs but let's
leave it there for now and let the team get on and do their jobs.”
England is trailing the two match Test series 1-0. The second game of the series commences from Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Colombo.
