England tour of Sri Lanka: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 refuses to under estimate the tourists – Cricket News Update
Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lankan skipper, is not taking England lightly and refuses to under-rate the tourists ahead of the second Test match at Colombo which starts from Tuesday, April 3.
The Lankan captain held that England is still one of the toughest Test sides to beat, and their performances in the last couple of years are a testament to that.
Jayawardene said, “http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and they have been really good in English conditions. That is reflected in their results.”
Jayawardene continued, “There are five or six teams in the world playing really good cricket now, so on any given day they can beat each other, but England have set the standards.”
The English team was seemingly invincible at home, where they beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 earlier this year, and they also lost the opening fixture at
Galle.
Jayawardene, who played an important knock of 180 in the 75-run win over England, admitted that the tourists are finding it difficult to cope with sub-continental conditions and the 34-year-old was hoping to capitalise on the weakness of the opposition.
“It has been difficult for them in the sub-continent, so for us it's about challenging them here just as it is about challenging ourselves in English conditions,” said the Sri Lankan captain.
The English batsmen are out of form and are failing to convert their starts, something which they were doing effectively before the tour of the UAE. The Pakistani spinners exploited the inability of England to play spin, and the same trend has followed in
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HMRKB-Herath-c1559 and Suraj Randiv, shared 18 wickets between them.
The defeat in the first Test match was England’s fourth on the trot. The Poms are on a downward spiral ever since they reached the summit of the International Cricket Council’s Test rankings. The tourists find themselves in a must win situation, as they
need to win to not only salvage a series draw but also to retain the number one Test ranking.
