England undecided about the vice-captain – Cricket News Update
With less than a month remaining in the commencement of the all-important battle between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, has expressed
his desire to have an official deputy to share the burden in such a high-profile series.
"We haven't made anything official yet," Cook said. "I would like to have a vice-captain because it is important everyone is very clear when the captain is not on the field who takes over.”
The left-handed opener was serving as England’s vice-captain under http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 since the last couple of years and was promoted to lead the side, once his opening partner decided to call it a day from international sport after the
series defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 earlier this year.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465, England’s T20 skipper, is the favourite to take over the role but nothing has been officially announced as yet, with some other senior players in contention as well.
Cook believes that England are a strong side in the presence of many players, who have vast experience of international cricket, despite being dethroned from the ICC’s number one Test ranking.
The 27-year-old cricketer believes that his side has a great mix of youth and experience, which should be handy in building a team for future.
"We have got a good number of senior players as well," he added. "That is what is quite exciting about this squad is we seem to have a lot of senior players who have played 60, 70, 80 Test matches but then there are also a crop of players
who have not played much at all.”
England management is confused about the vice-captain but they surely do not have any problems in captaincy in the presence of Cook, who still has a long career ahead of him and is considered to be among the world’s best Test players
at the moment, having already scored 20 Test centuries. The left-hander is close to nine thousand international runs under his belt and looks good for many more in the coming years.
