England v France: Maxime Medard doubtful for Saturday's clash
Maxime Medard the French wing and fullback is doubtful to be playing in the upcoming anticipated RBS Six Nations clash against England. He is reported to be having a thigh problem and even missed out today’s training session.
He was called in the squad as a fullback and considering his recent performances, he was expected to play a pivot role for the backline. Medard was selected in Lievermont’s first fifteen for the Saturday’s fixture against the only team France hasn’t beaten
in Six Nations as yet.
Maxime Medard is a 24 year old French rugby player for Top 14 side Stade Toulousain and international French side. He is capable of playing as a wing and as a fullback too, but mostly shows up as a fullback for France. The 5ft and 11in French sensation started
his amateur career from Blagnac in 1995 and then join Stade Toulousain in 220, where he stayed till 2004. He started his professional career in 2004 when got selected for Stade Toulousain’s Top 14 team. He made his international debut in 2008 and has earned
16 caps since then and scored 38 points.
Just like Chrish Ahston was French target for Saturday’s clash, similarly Medard was England’s target this time. He was being compared to Ashton and was in England’s hit list. But to England’s disappointment, fullback probably won’t be playing.
Reports from a source confirmed that he will be going for an MRI scan to see his chances, whether he can play or not. In any case, France do have options and Medard might not be missed that much. The hopeful candidates for his place are Clement Poitrenaud
and Six Nations opener for England against Scotland, Damien Traille.
