England v Ghana – First half review: International friendly - Part 1
After winning against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 on Saturday, 26th March 2011, England kicked off their friendly encounter against Ghana at Wembley stadium on 29th of March 2011, with Andy Carroll in attack as their sole striker.
Carroll was deployed by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Young-c6813 on the right hand side, and Stewart Downing down the left hand side. Both the wingers provided England with width and guile down
the wings.
In the center of the park, Jack Wilshere started his second consecutive match for the three lions. Arsenal’s young playmaker was complimented by the presence of Gareth Barry and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706 in workman like roles. At the back,
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 took up their regular wingback positions. Joe Hart was entrusted by Capello to start once again as England’s first choice goal keeper.
The encounter in question began with England on the front foot as Stewart Downing was played in down the left hand side by Jack Wilshere. However, Aston Villa’s winger was caught by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-c21860 Addy’s horrible challenge, a tackle which
deserved a red card. The referee spotted the infringement but took a lenient view of the situation and awarded a free kick to England. The ensuing free kick was taken by Ashley Young whose cross towards Andy Carroll inside the Ghanaian penalty area floated
out of play.
In the 7th minute, Ghana had their first golden chance of the night to open the scoring against England. It was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 with ease but
his eventual shot on target was thwarted away by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699, who showcased tremendous awareness as he rushed out to meet the muscular target-man.
Hart then had the vision to pick out Stewart Downing with his goal kick in the 8th minute. The ex-Middleborough man whipped in a wonderfully timed cross inside the Ghanaian penalty area, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Mensah-c18877 was on hand to
clear the ball away, as England were awarded their first corner kick of the match. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Richard-Kingson-c31087.
In the 10th minute, England had their first real goal-scoring opportunity of the night as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463. Downing found himself in space but his eventual finish lacked sufficient accuracy
to trouble Kingson as the ball went out play. In the 12th minute, Ashley Young threatened Ghana’s goal with a superbly executed shot from around about 25 yards out. However, Kingson acrobatically dove to his left to keep his team on level terms
in the match as the score-line remained at nil all at the Wembley stadium.
